Barossa!

The South Australian government has released this 'Barossa Be Consumed' clip to promote the famous Barossa Valley region. It comes with the song 'Red Right Hand' by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
My family's from South Australia. It, South Australia, is in my blood as much as Melbourne now is. I hope you love this as I do.

  1. Now I'm all so hungry and thirsty and kinda wish I had an airplane! Great video!

    1. Yeah Roger, it makes you want to be there. The Barossa is possibly Australia's most famous wine-growing region. Entirely different to France, raw but civilized.

  2. Bizarre! Have they listened to what this song is about? The track is too dark and sinister. They could have at least gotten a bad to cover the song in more appropriate style, maybe change a few lyrics etc....... unless of course the aim is to attract more serial-killing tourists to the area? ;-)

    1. Whatever, for me the song really works. It suggests the climate, not of killing, but of time going slowly, of heat, of a sensuality.
I haven't been back 'home' since 1995, but the song and the images take me back.

  3. I think I was mesmerized by the images and the rhythm and the voice without thinking about the words. Although for a nature video I thought the name bad seeds is ironic. It's interesting when advertising merges with art - it challenges my tendency to label things as good or bad.

  4. Like you, Catmint, it was the all-over music and images that mesmerized me. I felt it all worked, looking little like a State-sponsored advertising campaign and more like a seduction.

  5. I thought it worked too, and the words of the song didn't filter through to me, only the ambiance. It certainly made me want to go back to the Barossa...

    1. The region has such a strong identity. It's a hard-working kind of place, but prosperous and beautiful. We don't have many regions like it. I'd love to get back there too Carol.
